Modernist renovation and extension of a bungalow for a growing family

This impressive project involved a complete renovation and extension of a 1960's bungalow in Mayford, Woking, catering to a young couple who had recently acquired the property. The bungalow, although spacious, required a revitalisation as it had grown tired over the years. Our design approach focused on creating a generous open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area at the rear of the house, while optimising the remaining spaces to suit the demands of a bustling family life.

For the rear extension, we utilised a timber frame construction supported by an elegant steel structure, resting on just three columns. A striking feature fireplace anchors one end of the extension, while the kitchen occupies the other end, offering expansive glass areas that provide breathtaking views of the garden and seamless connection to the outdoor spaces.

James Williamson led this project whilst at Lees Munday Architects.
