East Molesey Extension
A poorly built rear extension was completely reworked, removing heavy structural elements and creating a cleaner, brighter family space.
This home on Park Road had all the right ingredients, but the layout simply didn’t work. The previous extension was poorly built and full of awkward structural interventions, including a heavy block column dominating the kitchen and cutting the whole space in half. It felt oppressive, dark, and disconnected from how the family actually lived.
Working collaboratively with Martin Swatton Design, we stripped the plan back to first principles. The structure was rationalised, unnecessary bulk removed, and new steelwork discreetly concealed within the floor zone — giving the clients the clean, calm ceiling lines they always wanted.
The transformation continues at the rear, where a new statement extension, clad in bronze metal, anchors the home to the garden and creates a warm, modern focal point. Inside, the kitchen and dining room now flow naturally, with a striking German kitchen in matt black, white and timber tones.
One of the family’s key wishes was to display an incredible vinyl collection from years of DJing. We designed a bespoke window seat and shelving around a new picture window — a relaxed spot to read, listen to music, and enjoy a glass of wine.
What began as a disconnected and compromised extension is now a bright, open, beautifully resolved family space that finally works for the way they live.
