Reading Bungalow Extension and Renovation
Reading bungalow transformed with vaulted ceilings, bespoke two-bedroom layout, and light-filled open-plan living.
In Woodham, Reading, our clients downsized from a larger property nearby to a smaller home that could be tailored precisely to their needs. They wanted a comfortable, low-maintenance bungalow with space to host children and grandchildren, but with only two bedrooms — each with its own private dressing area and en-suite bathroom.
One of the earliest design decisions was to address the original low ceilings by vaulting them, bringing a sense of height and light into the home. At the heart of the layout, we created an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, defined by a spectacular pair of linear rooflights that run the length of the modest rear extension. This extension, replacing an outdated conservatory, marks the join with the existing house while opening the space to the garden.
The result is a bright, well-insulated home that feels generous despite its compact footprint. Every detail — from the vaulted ceilings to the bespoke bedroom suites — was designed around the way the clients wanted to live. The outcome is a truly personal home: efficient, welcoming, and filled with natural light.
